Autumn on the farm

Autumn on the farm

🍂 Autumn on the Farm: A Season of Change and Harvest 🍂

As the crisp air of autumn begins, the farm transforms into a picturesque landscape of vibrant autumnal colours and we are busy as ever. This season is one of my favourites, as it brings new life, beauty, work, and celebration to our daily lives.

September saw the start of Dorset lambing for us on the farm, a first for us. We are so used to lambing the suffolk sheep in the depths of winter, it was a nice change

to be lambing in September with a spell of great weather. The spell of good weather enabled us to get fresh lambs outside within the first 48hrs of life or before it, this was great for us for many reasons including reduce the risk of disease. We faired out well with our lambs, and were are delighted with how this batch of lambs are growing and thriving. We post updates regularly on our socials especially Instagram so be sure to give us a follow...

Autumn has be incredible for our native breed beef business also. It also saw our first collab with another local business 'Corndale Farm', where we brought together the best of beef alongside premium pork to create the most mouth water hog roast

smash burger. For us, we felt extremely proud to see our produce on a menu for the first time. It was also incredibly rewarding to hear the amazing feedback from the customers, who came back for seconds. We also had our second collab with a local cafe 'The Yellow Bird', this time we supplied our premium 6oz Beef Burgers, they added this as an exciting addition to their menu coming up with a new creation daily. This was a huge moment for us, and we feel so passionately about working with other local businesses in our area.

At the beginning of October we harvested our barley, and made bales of straw working hard to get the straw in before the rain got to us and when the weather turned we made the decision to bring our larger livestock indoors. In an ideal world we would love to keep them out all year round, but they damage the ground, and their grazing for spring. So this is what's best for both our animal and soil health. Our cattle will still be on a grass based system without any additional cattle meal or concentrates. They forage on preserved grass, 'silage' which we cut and store in the silo pit during the summer months.

In October, we also received our 5 Star Food Hygiene Rating. This was our first ever

inspection by environmental health, so we were delighted to receive 5 stars. A lot of hard work went into this, but it has really paid off! As you can see, I think the cows were pretty impressed by this too!
