Summer 2024

Summer 2024

Ah, the sun-kissed days of summer on the farm! šŸŒ» We long for the bright summer evenings to stay for a little while longer...
It's been a hectic summer from cutting silage, bailing hay ledge, show season, new stock, and new business ventures. So where do we start?
Summer 2024 saw the beginning our of latest venture on the farm. Selling our traditional, rare breed beef directly from the farm. The breeds of cattle we work with areĀ Irish Moiled and Dexter. The beef is simply exquisite and if your local and haven't tried it out yet you're definitely missing out! We are passionate about preservingĀ the future of endangered breeds and Irish Moilies are one of those!
This summer we also tried our hand at showing our pedigree Poll Dorset sheep, this was a first for us but most definitely not our last! We took one of our poll Dorset ram lambs to our local show and came home with first place in his class, and he also went on to win the overall male champion! As you can imagine we were absolutely delighted with this being our first show! We cannot wait already until next season for the summer shows to begin.
As always, the summer months are busy on the farm we cutĀ our silage for the cattle, hay ledge for the horses and hay for the sheep. Due to our wet climate on the North Coast we have no choice other than to winter our large animals indoors so this is what keeps them fed over the winter months. Our cattle for beef are fed on a grass based system all year round even in the winter when indoors, so it is vital we have a high yield of grass in the silo pit to see them right through until the spring of the year.Ā
